No. I have seen large groups pre-booked walk through. I had the impression I was only checked for the Post Impressionist exhibition, not for the permanent one. Regards

Yes I agree with the majority of earlier answers, you cannot go into the National Gallery before your allotted time but you can stay as long as you like afterwards until closing. It is well worth staying on, the gallery is so lovely, they have organised it really well and the art is fabulous. Enjoy!
