The Boston Bruins celebrated their 100th anniversary with a win Sunday. Here's why their origin story is so special.

Boston did a phenomenal job with its year-long celebration, recognizing and honoring 100 years of Bruins hockey. It started with a 2-1 win over the Montreal Maroons on Dec. 1, 1924 and it culminated with Sunday’s victory.

The Bruins are celebrating 100 years as the Boston Bruins, defeating the Montreal Maroons two to one, back in 1924, their first ever win.

Charlie McAvoy and Charlie Coyle each scored twice as the Boston Bruins celebrated their centennial anniversary with a 6-3 win over the visiting Montreal Canadiens on Sunday afternoon.

Charlie McAvoy, David Pastrnak, and Charlie Coyle scored in an eruption not long after some of Boston’s living legends, including Bobby Orr, Phil Esposito, and Ray Bourque took part in emotional pregame ceremony.

Ponti, 18, will be one of the debutantes at the annual high-society event, which aims to celebrate “excellence, the empowering of women and the harmony between débutantes and cavaliers from all over the world,

The Montreal Canadiens have spoiled many moments for the Bruins over the last 100 years, but they were not able to plant a bleu, blanc et rouge flag on the giant B at center ice at the end of Sunday’s Centennial Game at the Garden.

The Bruins will host an hour-long ceremony to commemorate their centennial before puck drop at the Garden on Sunday.
