The sale of the Boston Celtics has been finalized. Private equity mogul Bill Chisholm has taken control of the NBA’s most-decorated franchise from a group led by Wyc Grousbeck that had owned them for more than two decades.

There were concerns that he might not return after his contract was up, and his status in terms of health was unclear after a knee injury.

Grousbeck, who is selling the franchise to a group led by Bill Chisholm, was originally set to remain in place until 2028

Wyc Grousbeck will no longer stay on as governor as part of the Celtics' $6.1 billion sale to Bill Chisholm, sources told ESPN.

Per senior ESPN reporter Ramona Shelburne in a recent social media post, "while Bill Chisholm will technically be the Celtics Governor, he and ... Grousbeck plan to run the team together as originally planned." This will have Chisholm as the team's official governor and Grousbeck serving as an alternate governor, according to Shelburne.
