The relative calm of a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas has come to an abrupt end with Israel launching dozens of attacks on targets across the Gaza Strip.

D EIR AL-BALAH, Gaza Strip — Israel launched a wave of airstrikes across the Gaza Strip early Tuesday, saying it was striking dozens of Hamas targets in its heaviest assault in the territory since a cease-fire took effect in January. Palestinian officials reported at least 44 deaths.

GAZA CITY: Israeli air strikes pounded Gaza and killed more than 400 people on Tuesday, in an onslaught that ended eight weeks of relative calm after talks to secure a permanent ceasefire stalled.
