Boston fired head coach Jim Montgomery on Tuesday and promoted assistant coach Joe Sacco to lead the team on an interim basis.

Bannister had been on the job in St. Louis for less than a year since succeeding Stanley Cup-winning coach Craig Berube. Montgomery spent two seasons as an assistant on Berube’s staff.

Just five days after the Bruins fired Montgomery, the St. Louis Blues announced that they’ve hired him as their next head coach. The Blues relieved Drew Bannister of his duties and signed Montgomery to a five-year contract to become the 28th coach in franchise history.
