DENVER — Colorado Avalanche forward Valeri Nichushkin had himself a night in a 2-1 win against the Vegas Golden Knights. On Wednesday, as the Avalanche hosted the Golden Knights at Ball Arena, Nichushkin scored the game-tying goal and then scored the game winner in a thrilling five-round shootout.

After a scoreless opening 33 minutes, both teams got on the board in a span of 33 seconds. Vegas struck first with a beautifully executed end-to-end maneuver.

Jack Eichel got the lone goal in the shootout and the Vegas Golden Knights overcame a three-goal deficit to defeat the Philadelphia Flyers 5-4 on Monday night.
