A regional jet flown for American Airlines Group Inc. collided in a deadly midair crash with a military helicopter around Washington, DC, halting operations at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport and prompting a search and rescue operation in the Potomac River.

The number of people onboard and any fatalities is unknown at this time. The plane can carry up to 65 passengers and four crew members.
