Hemlock’s defense was at its dominating best, keeping the Huskies at the top of the Tri-Valley Conference Blue division girls basketball standings. Hemlock held Nouvel to six points in the first half on its way to a 53-17 TVC Blue win Friday. The Huskies led, 34-6, at halftime as they improved to 2-0 in the league, 8-1 overall.

Valley Lutheran used a strong fourth quarter to claim its first boys basketball win of the season, knocking off Ithaca, 42-37, Friday. Valley Lutheran trailed, 30-28, entering the final quarter but outscored the Yellowjackets, 14-7, for the Tri-Valley Conference Blue win.

Dexter was paced by Jack DeMerell, who scored a game-high 19 points, followed by 15 points from Will Simpson. The Dreadnaughts improved to 6-2 overall and 3-0 in the SEC-Red and will face Ann Arbor Huron on Tuesday with the league lead on the line.
