Firefighters were battling a dangerous commercial blaze in South El Monte Wednesday afternoon, with propane tanks exploding at a property on North Tyler Avenue, according to Los Angeles County fire officials.

Multiple fire departments responded around 5:05 p.m. Thursday to the explosion at a home in the 200 block of Fox Chase Drive North and battled an ensuing fire, according to Oswego fire and police officials.

Fire crews battled the blaze for hours before recovering four bodies - all women - from the destroyed building.

At least 65 personnel were battling the blaze as of mid-afternoon.
