(NEXSTAR) – An American has been taken into custody in Paris after a newborn baby was allegedly thrown from the window of a hotel in the city’s 20th arrondissement, the Paris Prosecutor’s Office said.

An American woman traveling in Europe through a Massachusetts-based group was arrested after officials said she threw a baby out of a hotel window in Paris, resulting in the infant's death.

Paris authorities arrested an American woman on Monday after she allegedly killed her newborn by hurling the child out of a second-floor window, according to reports.

The young woman was on a European trip with a Massachusetts-based organization called EF Gap Year when she allegedly threw the newborn from a second-floor window of a hotel.
