On Wednesday, the world watched as NASA’s Artemis II mission lifted off from Launch Pad 39B at Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Artemis II is NASA’s first crewed mission to orbit the Moon since Apollo, marking a major milestone in the agency’s return to lunar exploration.
Artemis II astronauts will not set foot on the moon during the planned 10-day lunar mission. However, they could travel further away from home than any human being in history, reaching a distance of 248,700 miles, breaking a record set by Apollo 13 astronauts in 1970.
A G1 or G2-class geomagnetic storm is forecast to develop on Thursday, April 2, through Friday, April 3, with the aurora borealis possible from northern U.S. states.
