China has struck back at U.S. trade restrictions by banning exports of gallium, germanium, and other high-tech materials essential for advanced manufacturing and military technology. The move, announced Tuesday by Beijing 's Commerce Ministry, could propel the economic rivalry between the two powers and their respective supply chains.

The trade war between the U.S. and China deepens as gallium, germanium, antimony, and graphite were affected by the new controls.

China has banned exports to the U.S. of some goods containing critical minerals while tightening exports on others, after U.S. curbs a day earlier on the Chinese chip industry.
