WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden kicked off his final holiday season at the White House on Monday by issuing the traditional reprieve to two turkeys who will bypass the Thanksgiving table to live out their days in southern Minnesota.

The lighthearted ceremony, where aides and Cabinet members are forced to laugh at the president’s scripted dad jokes, comes as a concerted push for Biden to grant real-life clemency ramps up, with just 55 days before he leaves office.

U.S. President Joe Biden pardoned Peach and Blossom, two white-plumed turkeys, on Monday, sparing them from Thanksgiving dinner tables, an annual tradition that also marked the start of the Democrat's last holiday season at the White House.

While the tradition of the official turkey presentation began in 1947 when President Harry Truman was president, they were frequently gobbled up.

President Joe Biden pardoned this year's Thanksgiving turkeys, “Peach” and “Blossom,” on Nov. 25. Whatever attracts you to the ocean the most is enough of a reason to make you consider settling down in a beach town on a permanent basis.
