Joseph Kosinski is giving another iconic ’80s IP a contemporary twist. After helming “Top Gun: Maverick,” Kosinski will now be directing the “ Miami Vice ” reboot film, as THR reported. IndieWire has reached out to reps for Kosinski and Universal to confirm.

Joseph Kosinski must be a fiend for mojitos. The director behind box-office supernova Top Gun: Maverick will direct a reboot of Miami Vice for Universal. The script will be written by Dan Gilroy, who wrote and directed the 2014 thriller Nightcrawler starring Jake Gyllenhaal.
