Note how paragraph symbols appear in your document window at the left margin. Each symbol indicates where a new paragraph begins as a result of the carriage return.

The trick—and it’s such a strange solution that it does appear to be a trick—is to understand that in Word, text formatting is tied to the paragraph symbol ().

Formatting symbols have suddenly appeared on all my Word documents. What did I do? I've tried Help and Wizard but haven't found a way of hiding them.
