According to Charlotte-Douglas officials, an American Airlines employee died around 9:30AM on Monday. Wilmington native, Kevin Ullman, watched the tragedy unfold from his seat. He says the luggage cart was backing up and the victim may have been in a blind spot for the driver.

A worker at Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) died Monday after being struck by an airline ramp vehicle on the tarmac, local police have confirmed.

An American Airlines employee was killed in an accident on the tarmac late Monday morning at Charlotte Douglas International Airport in North Carolina, officials said. An accident involving a single airline ramp vehicle took place around 9:30 a.m., a spokesperson for the airport told media.

Several flights between Charlotte Douglas International Airport and Reagan National Airport have been canceled or delayed following a deadly collision between an American Airlines jet and an Army helicopter on Wednesday.

The American Airlines’ subsidiary has ties that go back decades in Ohio, and just said it was moving its headquarters to Charlotte.

"We are devastated by the accident involving a team member at Charlotte Douglas International Airport. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family," AA said.

The unidentified employee was working on the aircraft’s ramp when they were struck by a ramp vehicle around 9:30 a.m. Monday.
