Carwyn Jones announced he will stand down as first minister in the autumn after the "darkest of times".

Carwyn Jones has been on the assembly's political scene since the beginning of devolution in 1999, when he was elected to become AM for Bridgend at the age of 32.

Carwyn Jones has left a "strong foundation" for the next leader, says Swansea West MP Geraint Davies. Mr Jones will step down as first minister and Welsh Labour leader in the autumn.
