Kyrie Irving has intentions to play in the Olympics, but not for the U.S. Irving revealed his desire to join the Australian national team in 2028.

NBA All-Star Kyrie Irving said he is in the process of being able to play for Australia, the country he was born in, for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

Shortly after last weekend’s All-Star Game in San Francisco, the Mavericks guard was asked if he would consider representing Australia at the 2028 Olympic Games. Based on his answer, Irving seems optimistic about suiting up for the Boomers in the future.

Speaking from the 2025 NBA All-Star Game mini-tournament, Dallas Mavericks franchise combo guard Kyrie Irving expressed his desire to play in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. However, he wants to represent Australia -- not Team USA.
