Retired Supreme Court Justice David H. Souter has died at age 85. The ascetic bachelor and New Hampshire Republican became a favorite of liberals during his nearly 20 years on the bench.

Former US Supreme Court Justice David Souter, who also served as NH attorney general and an associate justice on the NH Supreme Court, has died.

Justice David Souter, touted as a steadfast conservative for the Supreme Court in 1990, soon revealed himself as the opposite.
