The snow emergency that has closed schools, businesses and government buildings throughout Erie County as flakes continue to fall on feet already on the ground hasn't slowed the workload for area first responders.

The local disaster emergency order, Erie County Commissioner Brenton Davis said, will not be lifted so state resources are still available.

Mercyhurst University classes Wednesday will be online and asynchronous. The university asks no one return to campus until conditions are safe and the campus re-opens. PennWest Edinboro resumes normal on-campus operations Wednesday. Classes will be held in-person.

An updated report was issued from the National Weather Service on Tuesday at 5:13 p.m. for lake effect snow until 6:45 p.m. for Northern Erie and Southern Erie.

Since it began early Friday morning, the lake effect storm has dumped several feet of snow in some areas. The snow fell at such an unrelenting pace that street crews have been unable to keep pace. Hundreds of holiday travelers were stranded on major highways Friday like i-90 and had to abandon their cars.

Erie County's lake-effect snow warning is set to come to an end Tuesday. That doesn't mean there won't be more lake-effect snow this week.
