Avalanche Acquire Blackwood, Smith From San Jose
The Colorado Avalanche Hockey Club announced today the team has acquired goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood, forward Givani Smith and a fifth-round draft pick in the 2027 NHL Draft from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for goaltender Alexandar Georgiev, forward Nikolai Kovalenko, a 2025 fifth-round draft pick and a 2026 second-round pick.

As part of the deal announced Monday — on Blackwood's 28th birthday — the Avalanche also acquired forward Givani Smith along with San Jose’s fifth-round pick in 2027. The Sharks received forward Nikolai Kovalenko and two draft picks — a fifth-round selection in 2025 and a second-round pick in 2026.
