A Weather Impact Alert has been issued for Friday and Saturday as there's a chance for snow moving into our region, creating hazardous travel conditions.

As another winter weather system approaches the region, News Channel 11 spoke with the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) to obtain insight on how its crews prepare roadways for snow and ice.

State, county and city crews are preparing as much as possible, even before the snow begins to fall. The National Weather Service says it could come as early as 8 a.m. Jan. 10, though the winter storm warning doesn't start until 10 a.m.

The preparations to make our roads safe are already underway. TDOT regional communications officer Mark Nagi shares how the agency is preparing.
