The sandwich made a triumphant return in the late 80s. McDonald’s took the McRib off the permanent menu in 2005, opting to make the cult classic treat a seasonal item. Since then, the McRib has made several limited-time appearances over the years, including a few “farewell tours.”

Family and friends are mourning Soren Dixon, Jack Nelson and Krysta Tsukahara, all college students who graduated from Piedmont High School in 2023. Four lifelong friends from the UK recreated their favorite vacation photo over half a century later. The group chatted to CNN Travel about the experience and how they’ve stayed close over the decades.

"The wait is finally over," McDonald's said in a release. "Starting Dec. 3, for a limited time, your favorite saucy sandwich – the McRib – returns to participating restaurants just in time to satisfy your holiday cravings. After all, 'tis the season…McRib SZN, that is."
