The Drumstick Dash is a Roanoke staple and is back for another run on Thursday. The race is the biggest fundraiser of the year for the Roanoke Rescue Mission, bringing in several hundred thousand dollars each year that helps the organization feed and shelter hundreds each day.

Light of Life Rescue Mission on Pittsburgh's North Side is preparing to serve more than 1,000 meals to those in need this Thanksgiving. This is the 72nd year of providing Thanksgiving meals to those experiencing homelessness or food insecurity.

On Wednesday, the local nonprofit celebrated its 60th Thanksgiving banquet at its downtown location. Inside its great room, those in need received the free holiday meals as Mayor Tom McNamara and Winnebago County Sheriff Gary Caruana assisted. The less fortunate sit at orange tables decorated with fall memorabilia lined the room.

For the team at the Las Vegas Rescue Mission, Thanksgiving is more than just a meal—it’s a labor of love that begins weeks in advance. In fact, preparations for the day's feast started two weeks ago.

The event served up over 4,000 turkey dinners with all the fixins and offered clothing, grooming, healthcare, service connection to housing, and more to those on Skid Row.
