East Lake Golf Club was supposed to be toughened for the 30 remaining competitors in the Tour Championship, the final leg of the FedEx Cup Playoffs. But it turned into a birdie-fest on Thursday as only two players failed to break par.

Russell Henley ran wild around East Lake Golf Club in the first round of the 2025 Tour Championship, and in the process, he ran to the top of the leaderboard in the final leg of the FedEx Cup Playoffs.

Russell Henley hardly missed a putt. Scottie Scheffler hardly missed a fairway. They led a parade of players who seized on the soft conditions at East Lake to begin the race for the Tour Championship and the season-ending FedExCup title.
