Penn State tight end Tyler Warren and defensive end Abdul Carter were named Wednesday to the CBS Sports/247 Sports All-America first team. Warren leads the Nittany Lions with 88 receptions for 1,062 yards and six touchdowns. He also has rushed 23 times for 191 yards and four scores and has passed for 35 yards for one TD.

A former La Salle High star, Carter has 10 sacks this season. Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel is the offensive player of the year.

South Carolina edge rusher Kyle Kennard was revealed as the Nagurski Trophy winner. On Monday, it was announced that Kennard was selected over three other finalists: Carter, Michigan defensive tackle Mason Graham and Texas defensive back Jahdae Barron. Minutes after Kennard was announced as the winner, Carter went to social media.

If the Nittany Lions are about to make history, they’ll need No. 11 to be every bit as dominant as he has been for the last month.

Abdul Carter is the Big Ten defensive player of the year, and Tyler Warren is the Big Ten tight end of the year.

Penn State third-year edge rusher Abdul Carter continues to stockpile awards following his dominant regular season. Carter was named Associated Press Defensive Player of the Year on Tuesday. Carter was also a first-team AP choice at edge rusher.

All-American team season kicked off on Wednesday when The Athletic released its list of the nation’s top players at each position. Two Penn State players are on it. And, it’s the pair you would expect to make the cut.

Carter was named the Big Ten’s Nagurski-Woodson Defensive Player of the Year and the Smith-Brown Defensive Lineman of the Year last week by the Big Ten, so receiving the AP’s top defensive player awards for the conference is certainly not a shock.

Abdul Carter missed out on winning the Nagurski Trophy on Monday, but he was able to collect another honor on Tuesday.
