Rosa Parks Day is celebrated every year on December 1 to honor the Alabama native and civil rights icon. This year, Huntsville Transit will offer free bus rides on fixed routes from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Rosa Parks Day serves as a reminder of the importance of standing up against injustice, no matter how daunting the odds may seem.

Huntsville Transit buses will run with a reserved seat Dec. 2 to mark Rosa Parks Day. The day commemorates Parks’ refusal to give up her seat on one of Montgomery’s segregated buses Dec. 1, 1955, after the section reserved for white riders filled up.

Huntsville Transit will honor the legacy of civil rights icon Rosa Parks by offering free rides on Monday. City officials said for the seventh year, there will be free rides on all fixed transit routes to celebrate Rosa Parks Day on Dec.

Sunday will mark the 69th anniversary of Rosa Parks' act of peaceful defiance. Monday, the city transit service will offer free bus rides in her honor.

The City of Huntsville and Huntsville Transit is offering free rides on Monday, Dec. 2, to honor the legacy of civil rights icon Rosa Parks.

The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) said it will honor Rosa Parks by placing special interior bus cards inside 400 Ride On Buses throughout December. A designated seat in each bus will also pay tribute to Parks and her historic act of courage.
