Domestic stock markets faced selling pressure on Thursday, driven by declines in tech-heavy stocks, a lack of significant global cues, and weak performance in Asian markets, news agency ANI reported.

Infosys fell 2.86 per cent to Rs 1,869.16. Tech Mahindra, HCL Tech and TCS fell 2.68 per cent, 1.91 per cent and 1.42 per cent, respectively. M&M fell 2.52 per cent to Rs 2,934.7. The auto major recently unveiled of two electric SUV models.

The rupee depreciated 9 paise to close at 84.49 (provisional) against US dollar on Thursday, weighed down by a negative trend in domestic equities and broad strength of the American currency in the overseas markets.

BSE Sensex and Nifty50, the Indian equity benchmark indices, crashed in trade on Thursday. While BSE Sensex went below 79,300, Nifty50 was below 24,000.

The BSE’s 30-share Sensex slid 1,039.26 points to 79,194.82, after opening at 80,281.64, compared to the previous close of 80,234.08. At 2:00 pm, the index was trading at 79,438.81, down 0.99 per cent.
