Wall Street stocks, led by S&P 500 and the Nasdaq, ended higher on Tuesday, as technology stocks rebounded, while investors digested President-elect Donald Trump's tariff pledges on top trade partners and the latest minutes from the Federal Reserve.

But this week Trump moved closer to home, threatening 25% tariffs on all goods imported from Mexico and Canada and tying the tariffs to demands for better border control by both countries.

The threat to put tariffs on all imports from Mexico and Canada sent GM shares lower and stoked fears such a move could impact profit margins.
