Baron von Raschke was born James Donald Raschke in Nebraska, 1940. As an amateur wrestler at heavyweight, he was Big 8 Champion and the bronze medalist at the 1963 Greco-Roman World Championships. With those credentials and his 6’3” frame, he was a natural fit for the American Wrestling Association. He started wrestling in 1966 under his given name but became “the Baron” during a tour of Canada in 1967. That year, he won the well-respected IWA World Heavyweight Championship, beating Édouard Carp
