At 1.25pm today the pagers for St Ives lifeboat crew went off and the crew quickly made their way to the station. Falmouth coastguard had reports of a vessel and person needing assistance off of Smeatons Pier. Barney Stevens, Helm launched the inshore lifeboat on service with his volunteer crew and they launched quickly to Smeatons. Our crew have now returned. The volunteers had launched to assist a crew member onboard a vessel 25 miles off St Ives head. The crew had only got a few miles underway and news came in from Falmouth Coastguard that SAR helicopter 924 was onsite and had taken a crew member onboard.
