More than 3,000 participants took part in a sacred Japanese laughing ritual believed to bring positivity and hope. The “Owarai Shinji” ceremony took place at Hiraoka Shrine in Higashi-Osaka, Japan, where residents and visitors laughed together continuously for 20 minutes. The ritual draws on a story from Japanese mythology in which the sun goddess Amaterasu emerges from a cave after being enticed by the gods’ laughter, bringing light back to the world.
